We have just finished compiling the results to our latest survey; what are TODAY’S job hunters REALLY looking for.
It makes fascinating reading especially since their priorities have changed since we last carried out the same survey in 2012, during the depths of the worst recession in living memory.
Our survey polled over 11,000 job hunters across the South East and across many disciplines and job titles from trainees to FTSE Directors and from industrial chemists to legal secretaries. It is fair to say that those polled were typically white collar and management staff; the kind we are known to specialise in placing at Orchard.
Previously the TOP SIX reasons were
- More Money
- Progressional Opportunities
- Training
- Job Content
- Better Benefits
- Location
- Better Boss
Today’s survey tells us a different story…people are feeling much more secure and optimistic.
The TOP SIX things that people are looking for today are…
- Location
- Great Colleagues
- More Money
- Job Content
- Promotional Opportunities
- Training
- Better Boss
What are the lessons from these survey results compared to 4 years ago.
- Location and convenience features as the #1 thing people are looking for. So hire local people, otherwise they will probably leave if they can find something closer to home!
- They value their relationship with their colleagues more than obtaining simply more money
- Training and promotion have slipped down the ‘league table’ reflecting the more positive economic climate
- An interesting job still features at number 4
In conclusion, except for higher paid positions, say £35k plus, try to recruit from the local work force when ever possible and try to create a positive environment where happy people flourish. Pay the going ‘rate’ and make the job as interesting as possible.
Oh, and get rid of the ‘miseries’ at work (if you can)
